The airfield is locatedin the northeast section of the country, one mile northeast of the town of Yang I Qala, 6 miles south of the Tajikistan border, 51 miles northwest of Faizabad and 60 miles northeast of Kunduz airfield.
Flat area with the Pyandzh river branching into many tributaries to the immediate north and west. There are rolling hills east. Drainage is estimated to be poor.
