The airfield is located approximately 1mile (1.6 km) south of Mazar I Sharif-Tashkurghan highway, 5 miles (8 km) east of Mazar I Sharif, 28 miles (45 km) south of Termez, Uzbekistan.
The airfield is in flat river country with mountainous terrain to the south at an elevation of 5000 feet (1500 mt) MSL. Drainage is fair.

- Airspace designation and lateral/vertical limits: class D, 6NM / 4000ft MSL
- Mazar is a PPR only airfield
- There is a point-to-point telephone line from TWR to Kabul TWR.
- There is a telephone and telegraph office in Mazar I Sharif. Flight plans can be submitted from TWR during airport opening hours.
