The airport is located north and west of the Hari Rod river, one mile east northeast of Chakhcharan, 153 miles east of Herat , 196 miles west of Kabul . Due to the absence of railroads and the inadequacy of the road networks this airfield is one of many that has been constructed for the hauling of freight and passengers.
